There is an issue with using toe touch as a checkpoint... it doesn't always happen. It usually does, but if you are using it as a checkpoint then you are focusing on a part of the swing that doesn't have the proper impact on timing. When you move out, the hands will load up and back against your move forward. The move forward has to be the loading process and it may or may not result in getting to toe touch. What you load, the "stretch" you create is way more important and a much better checkpoint. Check out this clip of Jose Bautista from today. Notice the lack of toe touch.

when we are done with our stride and at toe touch should our weight still be back? or should the weight come foward as the stride foot comes down?

ok thats starting to make some more sense. By the way this is a great article and the demonstrations really help. I used to stride but try to keep my weight back at the same time so my rear leg was straight but my front leg was slanted after my stride. I am a lot less confused now. thanks

This clip is a little intense, but check out the first green lines on Hamilton's rear leg.

The forward move isn't a weight shift. When done correctly moving forward will actually keep your weight back and the swing will shift the weight. If your weight shifts when you move forward, you will not be able to stay back. More on this coming soon!

I 2 questions about the standard stride... if you start comming foward as soon as the pitcher releases the ball then how are you supposed to stay back if it is an offspeed pitch? and are you supposed to load weight back before "the standard stride"?
