“South Easton, Mass. – Franklin Pierce University first basemen Zach Mathieu was named the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year following a vote by the conference’s head coaches. The sophomore first basemen was also selected to the Northeast-10 Conference First Team.
The Northeast-10 also announced its All-Conference teams, as well as it’s All-Rookie team and the selection of the major awards.
Franklin Pierce, Le Moyne College, and the University of Massachusetts Lowell each placed three student-athletes on the league’s first team, while Bentley University and Southern New Hampshire University each had two players tabbed for the first team.
Mathieu put together an outstanding offensive season in helping to leads the Ravens to a 33-15-1 record overall, including 14-6-1 in Northeast Division play. The sophomore is currently either leading the league or is among the league leaders in virtually every offensive category.
He is currently hitting .384 with eleven homeruns and 43 runs batted in for Franklin Pierce. His batting average is third best, he’s tied for second in homeruns, and he is fifth in runs driven in. The first basemen, who was named to the NE-10 All-Rookie Team last year, also leads the league in runs with 55, hits with 76, doubles with 19, and his .697 is far and away tops in the conference.”
